How the ranking works

Each item gets a penny score. The score rises with the number of reports and the number of states reporting, and it decays with a seven-day half-life since the last confirmed $0.01 scan. Items backed by more than one independent source get a bonus. Reader reports of a penny add to the score. Reader reports of full price subtract from it.

Rising means the report count is climbing over the last three days, which matters more than a big total that stopped moving. Trending marks items lighting up in community groups faster than formal reports arrive; we flag those by hand and the boost fades over two weeks.

Hot means a confirmed penny in the last three days with several reports, states, or sources. Active means a confirmed penny within two weeks. Fading means two to six weeks. Anything older moves to the archive.

Penny status is per store, per SKU. A hot item is a good bet to scan, not a guarantee. Read the guide before your first run.
